This is Family Business - how SALXCO is outworking the competition
SALXCO's clients on 39 of the Top 500 songs YTD 🚀, 5 songs in the 💎 club, 2022 SALXCO highlights and the top 20 artists report by audio streams 💵
I was looking at the list of the Top 500 Songs by Sales YTD through November 3rd (Songs w/SES On-Demand), and one of the things that is blatantly clear is what an incredible company Wassim “Sal” Slaiby has built with SALXCO. One can look at their talent roster and come to this conclusion but when you dig into the data, it puts all the more emphasis on it.
Let me expound on this. At least one client of SALXCO is represented on:
4 of the top 50 songs (8% marketshare)
9 of the top 100 songs (9% marketshare)
39 of the top 500 songs (7.8% marketshare)
And while The Weeknd and Doja Cat lead the way, there is representation from a plethora of the talent that they represent. A look at who is represented reveals:
Artists (Main or Featured):
The Weeknd - 12 songs
Doja Cat - 12 songs
French Montana - 1 song
Nav - 1 song
Bebe Rexha - 1 song
Bryson Tiller - 1 song
Metro Boomin - 1 song
Producers:
Metro Boomin - 8 songs
Diddy - 2 songs
DaHeala - 1 song
London On Da Track - 1 song
Prince 85 - 1 song
Songwriters:
Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) - 12 songs
Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini (Doja Cat) - 12 songs
Leland Wayne (Metro Boomin) - 7 songs
Ahmad Balshe (Belly) - 5 songs
Jason “DaHeala” Quenneville - 4 songs
Diddy - 2 songs
Bebe Rexha - 1 song
Bryson Tiller - 1 song
London On Da Track - 1 song
Karim Kharbouch (French Montana) - 1 song
Nasri - 1 song
Navraj Singh Goraya - 1 song
Looking past the Top 500 songs YTD, the accomplishments are just as staggering.
According to data from Luminate, artists represented by SalxCo / signed to XO have sold just under 8M albums YTD and over 66M albums ATD.
As mentioned in last week’s post, The Weeknd himself would equate to about 1.3% of UMG’s marketshare thus far this year, and just under a 6% contribution to Republic Records.
Doja Cat would equate to about .9% of Sony’s marketshare thus far this year (through 11/3/22) and 4.85% of RCA’s.
According to the RIAA, five singles from the roster are certified Diamond:
On the touring end, it appears that the “After Hours Til Dawn” tour could end up going down as one of the highest grossing tours of all time.
What’s equally impressive about this tour, is the philanthropic aspect to it. The Weeknd has partnered with The United Nations World Food Programme to launch the XO Humanitarian Fund to help support the world hunger crisis. In addition to a generous donation of $500,000, $1 per ticket from his After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour will go to the Fund.
So how does Sal and his team help their clients achieve these incredible results? It appears that Slaiby has a tireless work ethic and has surrounded himself with like minded individuals who live by the same credo. With a mantra of “Family First,” it’s easy to see why many members of the team have been working together for going on 20 years - it’s one big family.
Additionally, he and his team have excelled at collaborating both internally and externally and finding the right partners and activations. What I mean by internally is, on 9 of the 39 songs on the Top 500, multiple members of the roster are credited. You’ll often times find credits for Ahmad Balshe (Belly) and/or Jason Quenneville (DaHeala) on songs for The Weeknd.
Here is a look at some of the work that the SALXCO team has put in during 2022.
While there is no shortage of excitement about The Weeknd’s upcoming HBO show, The Idol, another exciting moment was how he took over Halloween via his partnership with Universal Studios for Halloween Horror Nights.
Another interesting topic is how well Anghami is performing. Sal is the international head of partnerships for the MENA based streaming service which reported this week 29% Y-O-Y revenue growth.
Hiba Tawaji’s song with Luis Fonsi is picking up stream and the World Cup themed “Tukoh Taka” featuring Nicki Minaj, Maluma and Myriam Fares should do big things for Universal Arabic which is helmed by Slaiby.
With new music forthcoming from Diddy, Bryson Tiller and Metro Boomin, the entertainment company shows no signs of slowing down.
Now let’s take a look at how everyone else is performing…
